Yogurt Bowl

Last night’s ab penalties in Brian and my endless games of Rummy didn’t put too much of a hurting on my core for this morning’s workout but let me tell you, my shoulders, chest, biceps and triceps are beyond sore from my strength workouts from the past two mornings. Wow.

Doing any core moves that involved the plank position this morning was killer!

Workout

I wanted to get a little warm up in to get my body going before I jumped right into my core workout so I started the morning with a quick run around the block (okay, around a couple blocks). I didn’t time it or even track my distance but it was about a ten minute run so I’m assuming I covered about 1.25 miles.

Next up was my core workout!

Set #1:
Russian Twist with dumbbell x 15
Alternating Plank Twists x 15
Plank Toe Outs x 15 per side

Set #2
Classic Crunches x 15
Extended Leg Lifts x 15
Bicycle Crunches x 15

Set #3
Hollow Man with Scissor Kicks x 15
Wind Shield Wipers x 15
Reverse Crunch x 15

Set #4
Tummy Tucks x 15
Star Tucks x 15
Side Planks with Dips x 15 per side

I repeated each set twice through before moving on to the next one and then finished the workout with one set of leg and glute toning exercises.

Set #5
Hip Adduction Lifts x 15 per leg
Hip Abduction Lifts x 15 per leg
Donkey Kicks x 15 per leg
Round Kick x 15 per leg

Breakfast

I couldn’t wait to dig into the yogurt that I set to strain over night for breakfast. A bowl full of strained-at-home Greek yogurt, frozen blueberries, oats, coconut flakes and almond slivers.

Totally hit the spot!

I’m off to get some studying done before Brian gets home from practice…we have a mini-road trip of sorts planned for the afternoon! Woohoo! 🙂

Question:

What is your favorite core exercise?

Cards & Abs

This afternoon was occupied mostly by a ton of card playing by Brian and me. For two people who never played cards together before we got to Korea, we sure have been playing our fair share now!

However, today, instead of just sitting on our butts through numerous hands of Rummy 500, we decided the loser of each hand and the loser of each game had penalties.

  • Lose a hand = 15 crunches
  • Lose a game = 100 crunches

Might as well get a workout in while entertaining ourselves, right?!

And with all those hands of Rummy that were played, we both got our fair share of ab work in for the day. Crunches with weights, stability ball crunches, planks, leg lifts…we kept it interesting!

And tomorrow was supposed to be a core day for me…let’s hope they aren’t feeling my insane amount of lost hands today. Even though someone else lost more complete games… 😉

Dinner

While we were busy playing cards and getting in our ab workouts this afternoon, I had two tilapia fillets marinating in lime juice and cajun seasoning in the fridge. Once we were ready for dinner, I put them in the broiler for 11 minutes until they flaked easily with a fork.

And then they were made into fish burritos with rice, black beans and corn.

Topped with shortcut guacamole, salsa and lettuce.

And cheese…we can’t forget the cheese!

The tangy flavoring from the lime juice mixed perfectly with the spicy cajun seasoning for just the right taste for a fish dinner with Mexican flare.

Question:

Do you ever find ways to add extra activity into your day, like in friendly card game competition? What are some of your best ways to add exercise to usually sedentary activities?

Sugar Overload

Yesterday afternoon I went on a sugar binge.  Remember those Mini Eggs, Reese’s Pieces Eggs and Crazy Beans that Brian and I bought to try on Sunday?  Well…my half of both the Mini Eggs bag and the Reese’s Pieces Eggs bag didn’t stand a chance, they were polished off completely….in one sitting.  This was after I had just finished my afternoon snack of animal crackers and chocolate peanut butter AND a Special K Chocolate Protein Bar.  I couldn’t get enough chocolate/sweets.  Bad news.

The rest of the afternoon was spent on sugar overload, feeling sick and very sluggish.  I’ve experienced this feeling before but yesterday, I swear, it was multiplied by 100.  Needless to say, I’m remembering how I felt the rest of the afternoon/night and I’m vowing to not let that happen again.  At least not anytime soon.  Lent starts tomorrow and my sugar binge yesterday has made my final decision for me…I’m giving up candy!

There may be more added to the list of what I’m giving up, possibly an ice cream addition, but my current nemesis is definitely first on the list.

I ended up feeling so badly last night that I was in bed at 7:30 p.m.  Waste of space!

I woke up this morning ready to start fresh with a great workout and a healthy breakfast.  I began at the gym with 3.25 miles on the treadmill followed by a .75 mile walk to round out 4 miles.  After that I headed to the free weight area and did a complete body cardio/strength workout.  I did both of my Jillian Michaels’ routines, core and arms/legs.  It felt great to get in a good sweat and get those sugar toxins out of my system!

After my workout was done I did a lot of stretching and foam rolling and heading home for breakfast.

I desperately need to go to the grocery store after work today (trip one of trying to stay to my March goal of keeping under budget), so I searched around for what I had on hand and ended up with an egg, cheese and black bean sandwich.

  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. black beans
  • 1 oz. tomato basil goat cheese

Off to the ENT Doctor and then heading into the office!  Enjoy your Tuesday morning everyone!
