**********

Last night I asked if anyone wanted to join me on the Keeping if Clean Challenge and so far two other bloggers are on board!

If anyone else wants to clean up their diets this week as well, blogger or not, it’s not too late to join us!

In order to keep up with one another, we can blog our daily clean eats and link back to each other’s blogs.  That way, we can also steal a clean meal here or there along the way and discuss any hurdles that may be thrown at us during the challenge!  If you aren’t a blogger and want to join in the fun, just comment on the daily challenge posts with your eats from the day!

Telli’s Tale: Volume 9

Friday, April 20th

This is Friday right? If so then something isn’t right! Grandma is cleaning her bathroom and I am in Telli jail in the den. I do not want to be in Telli jail!! So I show a little attitude and I throw my bed into the air.

I tackle my bed to the ground and I pounced on it with all four paws. Take that you old bed! Then what do I do I start to un-stuff it. I throw the pieces all over. And then I hear Grandma coming no it is not Grandma. It’s Big Mike!!! Yikes!!! He says “Telli! What are you doing?” I sit myself down and look around the room. What is he talking about I don’t see anything wrong here!

Next thing I know I see someone at the door.

I now can take a peek if the kitchen door is closed. It is Sheila…she is coming to get me so Grandma can finish her work!

Don’t worry I will be back in action in no time!

When Sheila brings me back the floors are cleaned and all my toys are away. Worst of all my sneeze marks are off the glass walls.

I get right to work on that and as I do I spy with my big brown, adorable eyes…something black and very long.

I want to go play with it Grandma says, “No Telli don’t you ever go near a snake!” It looked like a long black rope to me. But it did stick out it’s tongue at me! That’s not nice!

After dinner we had movie night in the man cave. I wasn’t much in the mood to just lay around so Big Mike and I got into it! Then we watched War Horse. It was too noisy!

I also heard the best news today…it confirmed something I thought I heard earlier in the week. Earlier I heard that there was going to an addition to my family. Sure enough I heard Grandma talking to herself saying “Congratulations on your new addition!” Yes, my southern Granddad, Frank was talking to my Grandma. I have a new uncle! His name is Bama and he has four legs like Uncle Wulfe and me. But I have been told he looks more like me, Telli! He has to be a good guy if he looks like me right! I bet Granddad Frank and Grandma Julia Love him, love him, love him. They better love him less than me though because I am the sweetest dog ever!

Saturday, April 21st

Have you ever heard the box on the wall where you watch NCAA’s and movies and baseball say “This is a test…”? Well that was exactly what today is turning out to be.

Test 1. Big Mike, Grandma and Telli go outside without a leash. They tell me to sit and I obey. They say Stay and I stay but my foot is shaking…I can’t contain myself…ohhhh noooo…here I…Goooo! I’m free and running and singing my theme song! I am as happy as a pig in…in…um…pig heaven! Wulfe is allowed to join me but I am tiring out.

Test 2. Grandma and I go out but I am on a leash. Same routine she tells me to sit and I obey. She says stay and drops the leash and I stay but my foot is shaking…I can’t contain myself…ohhhh noooo…here…I…Goooo! I am running with my leash dragging behind me. Grandma commands “Sit” and I obey but when she gets near I take off but I didn’t know she had her foot on the leash!!! Drat Busted. Test grade not good!

Test 3. Grandma takes me out and we are in the circle I am sniffing for a spot. Oh no did you hear that? That chirping you know that sound with the flags on the sticks. I start jumping up and down pulling grandma away from the circle but it is following us. Grandma is laughing saying “Telli, calm down it is the birds in the tree and I have to agree they do sound similar!”

Test 4. Big Mike takes me out on a leash I have to go by the flags because he has to fix a light. Big Mike says “Telli Sit” I obey “Telli stay” and he walks by the sticks with flags and I sit, stay and wait for him to come back. I pass the test!!! Hey man I’m an all-star…La,la,la!

Tonight Grandma and I go out into the circle and I do my business. When we come in Grandma says, “Oh no Telli your Frontline is working I just found a tick on me let’s go take care of it.” Now I don’t know what a tick is exactly… but wait until you hear what grandma did to it! First she picked it up with a piece of paper towel and wrapped it in a tight little ball. Then she put it on a glass tray and took fire sticks to it.

And she kept doing the fire sticks until we heard “pop” and Grandma said “so much for that little guy”. Hey I am glad I am not such a little guy anymore! Yikes!

Sunday, April 22nd

This morning I hear Grandma talking to herself on the box, when she puts it down she tells me Aunt Katie and Uncle Brian will be coming for dinner. Yay! I love company! Big Mike goes to the grocery store to get some stuff for dinner. He starts to suck the floors with the blue thing and Grandma and I are starting dinner. I see this big purple ball on the counter. I know it is a new toy for me. I was a good boy yesterday! So I stare at that ball, I sit and watch it as grandma put thing away. Then Grandma picks it up. I sit immediately…and wag my stump of a tail. She is going towards the den…she is going to throw it for me. I watch her hand very intently. Come on! Come on throw it! She turns around and puts it on the counter and takes a big shining skinny stick and puts it on top of the ball and presto it falls over into two pieces. Awww…she killed my ball! Grandma laughs at me and says, “Telli that is not a ball it is a very big onion. You would not like the taste of it and it would give you bad breath!”

I sit and watch Grandma cut up strawberries. I love strawberries so I get a small bite! I am such a good helper in the kitchen! I am such a good helper that when Aunt Katie and Uncle Brian arrive I am in the game room greeting them. Grandma says, “Dinner is ready”. I am the first to hear her and I start for the kitchen but Big Mike stops me and says, “Sorry Buddy you need to go in your house while we eat”. What the heck? My place is under the table on at least in the den watching! Okay be that way I will sing all through you dinner! And sing I did…as loud as I could! And I didn’t take a break between songs! When I finally get out of my house all the dishes are gone! I always supervise the dinner clean up! They really hurt my feelings! Now I have to sulk all night until I get some treats!

Endorphins

I made myself commit to waking up and getting my workout in today before doing anything else. Yesterday I bummed around for a while and then had zero motivation when it came time for my workout; however, as soon as I busted it out, I was pumped with energy and going a mile a minute. I’m best when I have  that energy spark in the morning, so kept my promise this morning and rolled out of bed and right into Body Revolution.

Welcome back morning endorphins! 🙂

Workout

Workout 11 in Phase 3 is the real deal, people. I know I said it last time I did the workout but it really pushes your chest, shoulders and triceps. I’ve been done the workout for a while now and my shoulders are still burning. Hurt so good!

Breakfast

I wasn’t sure what I wanted for breakfast and went back and forth between a smoothie and oatmeal. Cold or hot. Sweet or Savory.  Then I saw Brian eating a piece of pineapple and my decision was made.

Chocolate Banana Pineapple Protein Smoothie

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 cup soy milk
  • 3 frozen pineapple rings
  • 3/4 frozen banana

Definitely happy I chose to start the day with a tropical start!

Since Monday’s are off days here, Brian and I have the whole day ahead of us and aren’t quite sure what we are going to do yet!

I have a feeling some Jenga could be in our future though…

Question:

Are a particularly sweaty workout, do you prefer a hot or cold breakfast?

Keeping It Clean

The past couple of weeks haven’t been the prettiest for me eating-wise. There has been ice cream desserts on a nightly basis, a ton of snack packs and bars and lots of dinners out.  The majority of my meals have been relatively healthy; however, it’s the ones that aren’t that are the trouble.  If I’m eating something bad, I’m going way overboard.  That’s just how my body and cravings work – once I get a taste of something sweet or indulgent, I’ll eat it until I make myself sick – just because.  Stupid, I know.

With that being said, I have a personal challenge for myself for the next week.  Starting this morning, I’ve challenged myself to 7 days of (mostly) clean eating. I know that with the current circumstances of baseball life abroad, there will be some struggles with 100% clean eating but I plan to aim for 80% of my total food intake at the end of the week to be clean.  In my opinion, I will consider this challenge a success if I cut out the loads of sugary sweets and processed snacks that I have been consuming way too much of.

I’m hoping it helps to kick the sugar cravings I’ve been having at night and to just gives my body the healthy reboot it currently needs.

In my opinion, I will consider this challenge a success if I cut out the loads of sugary sweets and processed snacks that I have been consuming way too much of.  My definition of “clean” for this week is healthy foods that are giving my body the nutrients that it needs to feel “cleansed” of the crap I’ve been allowing to sneak into my diet.  I’m, by no means, against limited consumption of sweets and processed foods and absolutely plan to reintroduce them in moderation after this week.

So far, so good with today’s eats.

Breakfast:

Oatmeal with raisins, banana slices and honey.

Morning Snack:

Peanut Butter & Jelly Lara Bar.

Lunch:

A burrito bowl with shredded chicken breast, rice, beans, salsa and avocado.

Afternoon Snack:

Protein smoothie with frozen banana, soy milk and spinach.

Dinner:

Pork tenderloin on salad greens with pineapple, avocado, muesli mix and salsa for dressing.  Green beans were eaten on the side.

And who says you can’t have dessert while still eating clean?!  Not this girl of course.

Dessert:

Two Chewy Banana Honey Oat Squares with peanut butter.

Here’s to the next 6 days!

Anyone else up for the clean eating challenge?! I’d love to see what meals and snacks you eat on a clean diet…so feel free to share!!!
