And So It Goes

If you have been following LoveEatRun for at least a few months now, you know that back in January, Brian signed a contract with a professional baseball team in Daejeon, Korea. Together we made the decision that I would quit my job and make the move around the world with him. He started his Korean career off with spring training in Arizona that continued in Japan and then made his way to South Korea where I met him here in Daejeon.

Unfortunately, the season did not start off on a good note for him and after a bad start in his first outing, he was sent to the minor leagues to get acclimated to Asian baseball. Throughout his stint with the minor leagues, he started 4 games, threw 27 innings and had a win/loss record of 2-1 with one no decision.

After over a month of playing in the minor leagues, with no other big league chance, the Eagles decided yesterday to release him. We are currently waiting out the seven day waiver timeline (in which another Korean team has the opportunity to claim him) before closing this chapter of our baseball life and heading back home to our family and friends.

When a professional sport is your career, you always know that situations can change in the blink of an eye. A designation, a release, a trade, an injury…it only takes one instant decision and you could be on a new path in your career.

We are thankful for the opportunity that we were given for Brian to play baseball here in Korea and we are walking away from these few months with a life experience not many others can say they had and for that we will always be grateful.  We had some ups and downs while here in Korea but met some great people along the way that we will always remember.

We are looking forward to the next chapter in our life and are hopeful that this crazy game of baseball that we call life still has more in store for us ahead.

Too Much Card Playing

I think a cut on your elbow from having it propped on the table while holding up your hand of cards for game after game of Rummy 500 is a sign that you should really get out of the apartment more often.

Our days here in Korea are definitely getting longer and longer with each one. With Brian being in the minor leagues right now, he has practice every morning with the other guys who are not playing in that day’s game. However, once practice is over, those guys don’t travel to the game.

It’s a positive because we get to spend our afternoons and evenings together but it’s also a negative because we’ve got a lot of spare time on our hands. And with being in a foreign country, there is no running errands to Target (which could consume an entire afternoon for me) or grabbing lunch or fro yo with a friend. It’s just me and him and pretty much our apartment.

We have been getting out and seeing a lot of different things in the area but we can’t travel too far with just our afternoon and evening and once you’ve done some things once, you’ve done them enough.

Our evening walks are nice to get us out of the apartment and our games of cards pass the time quite quickly but I’m beginning to think the movie The Shining wasn’t really all that far off base…Cabin Fever, my friends! 😉

Workout

I got out of the apartment this morning for an easy 3 mile run in the surrounding neighborhood. I did change my route up today for a change of scenery which was a bonus.

When I got back to the apartment, I did 16 minutes of Jackie Warner’s no crunch abs workout.

Breakfast

For my (late) breakfast, I just mixed together oats, strained yogurt and protein powder and let them sit in the fridge for about 10 minutes before eating.

Instant overnight oats! 🙂

I love how thick the mixture of oats and yogurt gets when you give them time to really set together.

Question:

What is your favorite way to pass the time when options are limited?

A Glimpse of Camden

My parents, sister and brother-in-law all went to the Orioles game last night (or this morning for those of you in the same time zone as me!) and Katie actually video chatted me from the game.

Yes, my sister was that girl holding her iPhone up while I watched a couple pitches of the game with them.

It was so nice to chat with my whole family together, to catch a glimpse of my old stomping ground (not to mention my favorite baseball stadium) and to see some of the familiar faces of past employees and co-workers.

Not to mention, I would have killed for a bite of Katie’s soft pretzel!

I’m already excited for June 9th – my first game back at the Yard!! 🙂

And since chatting with them and watching the rest of the game via MLB Gameday took up my morning…I’m off to actually focus on studying now!

Quality

Not that I expected any different, but Brian took the mound for the first time today since being assigned to the minor leagues and left the game after the 6th inning with a quality start under his belt.

  • 6 innings
  • 5 hits
  • 1 ER
  • 1 BB
  • 5 K
  • 75 pitches

That’s my boy! 🙂

Another quality thing to come out of this afternoon?

Yes, that would be everything that we shipped here from back home before I left on March 14th!

Lara Bars, Luna Bars, Special K Bars, granola bars galore!

Oatmeal and grits…that were apparently checked to make sure we weren’t smuggling something else inside of them.

We also have spices…

And candy…and water mixers…and extra Fiber Gummies….the only things that didn’t make it through customs were the peanut butter, honey and chia seeds. But I think it’s a pretty fair trade, giving those up for what did make it through….at least I can get peanut butter and honey here, it just costs an arm and a leg!

No use crying over spilled oatmeal, right?

Especially not when we finally have all of these products in our possession!!! Woohooo! 🙂

Dinner

When Brian got home from his game this evening, we both were starving and headed straight out to Flying Piatto for dinner.

We shared Cajun Pasta…

And a Hawaiian pizza…

With cheese stuffed crust…

I wasn’t really a fan of stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut the first time I had it…way back when it became the rage years ago…but this stuffed crust was realllly good! 🙂 I ate two pieces of pizza and then just continued to eat B’s leftover cheese crust!

Question:

Do you like stuffed crust pizza?
